GARMIN NUVI 265WT vs. MIO MOOV 200 AUTO GPS ROAD TEST REVIEW OF GARMIN
มิถุนายน 26, 2009
Click ‘more info’. At the outset, I’ve no affiliation or interest in Garmin or Mio. Note that after I entered the Garmin traffic map I forgot to switch back to regular map display, which is a more detailed and attractive color display. I also should’ve pressed button for ‘Traffic On Route’ and you would’ve seen language there was ‘no traffic’ on my particular route. Click on my video response to this one which covers the Traffic Reporting function in greater detail. For this video, I had the …

FYI, I’ve posted a new road test video on the Mio Moov 200.

Read ‘more info’ where I comment on the mount.
On the contrary, the stand is not flimsy at all, and the unit snaps into place upon its holder. It’s quite nice. It’s the rotating ball mount that necessarily must have some play. One can jury-rig a fix with various implements, or complain to Garmin and I’ve read they sent replacements free of charge if it really bothers you.

the stand that holds the gps seems flimsy in the video. it shifts quite a few times. can you correct me if i am wrong?

(cont’d)…and the name of it will be inserted into the map screen at all times. Same with ‘Lodging’. Speed limit for road you are on constantly displayed-great feature. The only TomTom I would consider would be Go740 live or the Garmin 885T. TomTom is good make, too. I prefer the Garmin 265WT and will keep it as best ‘bang for the buck’ for its price point. YMMV, but I’m quite happy with the unit.

I don’t know if you can set them up as icons, but you probably can.
The quickest way to find nearest gas stations would be to use the ‘Where Am I’ function, or to simply Go To- Points of Interest-Fuel and it will nearly instantly display the nearest gas stations. You can then input them as ‘Favorites’ …(cont’d)

Hmm, it should have gas station icon/mph/motel icons…u can set them up right? and one more question…what do u think about tomtom compared with garmin theres big difference?

I don’t know if you have setting to ‘max’ detail if the off-ramp is depicted before you turn onto it, but you have more than enough info anyway. The more detail the more chance of distraction and accident, IMHO. Anyway, I highly recommend the unit. Lag is minimal, IMO.

If you look at very upper left part of the screen, it shows distance to turn and direction of turn. That, coupled with the TTS, is all you need.
If you also look at the map you will see similar white arrow(s) showing direction of turn. Remember, I had this on Traffic Map screen (gray-scaled depiction) and forgot to switch map to Normal map… (cont’d)

Great, now I get it…theres a white arrow that shows u and tells u the next move…but what if u add full detail? it’s lagging or what?
11. brentfoto | มิถุนายน 26th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Unit does not have lane-assist.
If you are referring to lack of detail depicting the roadway constituting the off-ramp that I entered, I think I know what you mean-you don’t see it at first.
Detail level was on ‘Normal’. You can actually get more detail, but I’m likely to reduce my own settings to ‘minimal’ or ‘least’ detail.
The map is a nice reassurance, but not needed. I just concentrate on the upper band showing distance to turn & direction of turn, and the voice TTS. Thx.

NIposs-not sure what you mean by the line of the road-the actual road, or road as depicted on the unit? What do you mean by insecure?
Anything, thank you very much for the commpliment also contained in your post! It is appreciated.

First, THANKS for the review.
Second, your safety is more important so I suggest to let someone drive next time. One accident is easily over $500. Not worth it.
Third, I was hoping you had the Mio side by side with this Garmin. That’s the only fair comparison.
Again, thanks buddy.

I wanted to compare and contrast the two GPS units I have owned, coupled with a road test demonstration of the Garmin. Sorry, did not mean to confuse.
Upon reflection, perhaps I should’ve done two separate videos, and I may do a separate road test video on the Mio, if the friend I’ve since sold it to will loan it back to me for such a purpose.
17. oubobcats27 | มิถุนายน 26th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
This was confusing because you were talking about two different GPS units at once…

Update: sent Moov 200 in for repair. They replaced the battery free of charge. Bravo Mio! However, I believe it noteworthy that I’ve had no desire to use the Moov 200 since getting it back. Also note, that the Garmin does indeed give accurate ETA’s and distance to destination. Funny what a month’s or more use and research will benefit one in actualizing the units’ potential.

Almost!
I’m now a few weeks into owning this unit. There’s a lot more to it that one realizes at first. The free Traffic function is great.
Amazon, though, is running a Father’s Day sale on Garmin and others. You can get an 800 series at great discount (voice activation, but no free traffic). It’s worth checking out right now.
