I just viewed that performance and it was spectacular. I hope that this is the level of skating we see in the Olympics from both her and Asada. Both of the skaters doing all of the jumps that they are capable of. It was wonderful!!!!!

If you guys are going to bring up other skaters’ best programs, then its only fair to compare them against Yu-Na’s 2007 Cup of Russia Freeskate! She lands 7 Triples including the Triple Toe (twice), Triple Salchow, Triple Loop, Triple Flip, and Triple Lutz (twice). Please do your research before saying she can’t compete against the old greats! There’s a reason why Michelle Kwan and Kristi Yamaguchi have such great things to say about Yu-Na!!!

As good as she was I can’t help but compare this performance to one of Michelle Kwan’s or Kristi Yamaguchi’s best performances during their peak when they would land 6 or 7 triples in a program including a triple-triple combination and think that they could’ve beaten her.

If the new system were to reward variety of triples then the skater would just ahve to learn them and learn them correctly. I remember when Kristie Yamaguchi was competing and she had fits on the triple salchow and she kept putting in her free programs because she competed against skaters that did thatjump in their sleep and she knew she needed the maximum variety to compete against that likes of Midori Ito and Tonya Harding who had triple axels. I miss those days and the old system.

The point that I am trying to make is that I do not like the nw system, and this is because it moves away from the tradition if the women doing more of a variety of triple jumps. Under the old system Asada who I think is wonderful, would have be more encouraged to learn all of the triples, which I think she could do. But this new system is too focused on the points rather than the overall talent of the skater.

And also, it’s known that Mao Asada does not like doing the Triple Lutz. I don’t blame her. You don’t even look where you are going after you do your turn and skate backwards.

Substituting a triple loop would have been no problem for Yu-na but then you’d miss out on things like Mao Asada attempting two triple axels or Miki Ando going for a Quadruple Salchow rather than a Triple-Triple combo jump. I personally liked that Yu-na did two Triple Lutzs rather than a Triple Lutz and a Triple Loop later.
A system that requires Double Axel, Triple Toe, Triple Loop, Triple Salchow, Triple Flip, and Triple Lutz would favor Kim Yu-na and Miki Ando at the expense of Mao Asada.

What I was saying was that variety of jumps is important too. I do not exxpect for her to have a triple axel, but it would be nice too see that all of the other triples were landed. I personally do not like the new system because it does not reward a skater that completes all of the difficult triples. This is something that I would actually like to see in the new system.

Are you asking for a Triple Axel? The Triple Flip and Triple Lutz may be toe pick assisted but they are worth more points than the Triple Loop and Triple Salchow. She’s hit the Triple Salchow in previous showings of this program but missed this time. Her improvements in other areas more than made up for the missed Salchow given the score for this FS

She is wonderful, however there were no edge triples in the program so there is work to do.
